Treatment for Gynecomastia

Treatment for Gynecomastia comes in a variety of forms. There is the route one option of having surgery where a surgeon can literally cut right to the heart of the problem by removing the offending breast tissue. This is often a last resort however and not necessary in the majority of cases out there.

The reason being is that most cases are pseudo-Gynecomastia. This means the problem is more related to body fat than to a hormonal imbalance and as such is going to require a different form of treatment for Gynecomastia in order to make it go away. The method of treatment in this case does not need to be anywhere near as serve as invasive surgery. As pseudo-Gynecomastia is the build up of fatty deposits on the chests it can be taken care of with correct diet and exercise.

But how do you know which form of treatment for Gynecomastia you need? How can you tell if you have 'true', hormonal related Gyno or pseudo-Gynecomastia. If you are unsure the best course of action is to consult with your physician who will examine you and be able to give you a definitive answer.

Often the tell tale sign of true Gyno is the presence of a hard fatty lump underneath the nipple, this is actual breast tissue. If when pinching the fat on the chest there is no lump and it feels the same as fat elsewhere on the body such as the stomach, then chances are you are dealing with pseudo-Gynecomastia in which case diet and exercise will be the most effective treatment for Gynecomastia.

Most doctors and surgeons will recommend the patient to use diet and exercise as part of their treatment for Gynecomastia even in the presence of 'true' Gyno prior to surgery. Exercise will also aid the recovery of the surgery patient and help them to maintain the gains in shape and appearance.

Resistance training is a particularly effective treatment for Gynecomastia for a number of reasons. Firstly muscle is metabolically active tissue so when we have more muscle we burn more fat throughout the day and this helps us to get rid of the unsightly fat on the chest that is associated with this embarrassing condition.

Secondly, resistance training boosts the levels of Testosterone, usually something that is depressed in those suffering from Gyno. Testosterone is not only a potent fat burner but it can help address the hormonal imbalance in those with this condition.

Obvious exercise include chest related exercises such as the chest press, dumbbell flys, pec-dec and push ups. More often that not anyone trying to effectively treat this problem will focus solely on these exercises however other, full body movements such as the squat, dead-lift, clean and press all engage multiple large muscle groups and cause the greatest amount of testosterone release and subsequent fat burning.

A second effective treatment for Gynecomastia is to examine the diet and look at what the diet may be doing to increase fat and also increase the levels of the hormone estrogen. Often a major culprit is alcohol. Reducing alcohol intake can help to treat Gynecomastia as alcohol increases the levels of estrogen and is also calorie dense making it increase fat levels quickly.

A diet rich in lean protein sources is also recommend as this helps to raise metabolism and burn fat. It will also help to build muscle when resistance training. There have been fears that foods that are fed hormones or antibiotics may contribute to the development of man boobs but there is little evidence to support this as you can see in this review of foods that cause man boobs. A healthy diet is therefore still an excellent treatment for Gynecomastia, especially when dealing with pseudo-Gynecomastia or 'man'boobs.
